On the wind forecast point, this wasn't supposed to be a problem anymore. Google claimed to have basically solved it for energy traders with DeepMind so god knows what NESO is up to....will have to dig into that one a bit more...

I used to work at Google Research on the team that would eventually become the WeatherNext project. I'm so proud of this incredible scientific accomplishment by my colleagues -- it predicts the near impossible while helping literally billions of people.
WeatherNext3 predicts a variety of weather variables down to 9 km resolution and temperature/humidity down to 3 km resolution.
This tech will be really valuable for optimizing renewables, data center locations, and allowing farmers to plan ahead.

When people say LLMs are autocomplete, it's not a pejorative, but an accurate description. They aren't against autocomplete. They are saying the spicy autocomplete isn't conscious, does not have cognition.
Pointing out WeatherNext is a transformer model too completely misunderstands LLM criticism.

When people say LLMs are autocomplete, it's not a pejorative, but an accurate description. They aren't against autocomplete. They are saying the spicy autocomplete isn't conscious, does not have cognition.
