No apps. No code. Just browser-native power. Program physical NFC tags directly from your browser with Bitsbender to create seamless dual QR-NFC interactions. 📱⚡️

Built a game for my 4yo daughter. Used #WebNFC to add more interactivity to her physical animal cards 😊

I'm very glad to see recent developments to get WebSerial available on Chrome Android. It would be nice if Google finished the set by shipping WebBluetooth on Linux. I think that and then just WebNFC on desktop in general are the final missing pieces.

Very pleased to see Web Serial API! 🤞for WebNFC and who knows maybe even WebUSB or WebBluetooth down the line.
Firefox 151 is out now, and brings with it some tasty new web platform features:

🎉 Container style() queries
🎉 Web Serial API
🎉 Document Picture-in-Picture API
🎉 keyboardLock on requestFullscreen

…and more!

Fwiw chromium uses a device chooser UI for all these device APIs (aside from webnfc), so the site only sees devices that are explicitly granted by the user.

WebNFC is purely based on reading and writing the NDEF data format to simple tags. "Connect to a rogue device" I'm guessing you mean like a dodgy bank card reader? Stuff like Google pay uses host card emulation which is quite separate.

#TIL There's an NFC API for web browsers. Only Chrome for Android and Baidu Browser support it, even partially caniuse.com/webnfc

Going from "Mozilla is interested in some of the standards" to "Mozilla recently indicating interest in implementing WebBluetooth, WebHID, WebNFC, WebSerial, and WebUSB" is an outrageous misrepresentation.

my world for actually usable WebNFC

just let me send APDUs from JavaScript, what could go wrong

Specifically, they need to use the device's NFC capability to read data from an external physical bank card. For medium-to-high-risk transactions, they mandate the user's physical card for supplementary verification. However, the current WebNFC spec/impl does not appear to support this.

Writing NFC Tags in .NET
I first added NFC code to 32feet.NET back in 2020. However, as other priorities came along it never got fully polished and released on NuGet. This year I finally got around to it and updated the code for .NET 8.0 as it had originally targeted Xamarin Forms. InTheHand.Nfc is available on NuGet and follows the API model of WebNFC - it supports reading and writing NDEF tags as this is the most widely used format for providing Urls, text and other custom data types.
