#Webern
Corroboration confirmed, an amazing evening.

Though the Mahler was the main draw, also love the Webern, and Wolfe's piece was perhaps my favorite of the 250th commemorations I've heard.

David Lord at MKeUltra in Milwaukee on July 20, 2026
**David Lord** is a fascinating guitarist and composer who straddles the line between jazz and composed modern classical guitar music in a way that fascinates me. His compositions are often brief, sometimes with the spare directness of a Webern piece and sometimes with a full serving of effusive and dynamic joy. This blog was fortunate enough to cover his spectacular St Patrick's Day 2024 appearance at the **Jazz Gallery** , performing before **Andrew Trim** 's group **Hanami**. This appearance at **MKeUltra** also included Trim -- in fact the final piece on this recording is an improvised duet with the two guitarists. **Purchase his most recent album here.** Recording information: DAVID LORD 2026-07-20 Milwaukee, WI MKeUltra David Lord: guitar Andrew Trim: guitar (track 8 only) Setlist: 01 Wolf’s Milk Slime Mold / Brush Footed Butterfly (6:41) 02 Old Man of the Woods (3:32) 03 Mossy Maze Polypore / Tapering Russula (7:16) 04 The Forest Butterfly (3:23) 05 Humble Mushroom (3:39) 06 Amethyst Deceiver (2:59) 07 Crown Rust (2:08) 08 Rabbit Hole (8:44) Total time = 38:22 Recorded with kind permission of the artists by Richard Hayes for the blog www.milwaukeetaper.com Microphones: Line Audio CM3 in ORTF Additional source: Soundboard feed from Andy Recorder: Sound Devices MixPre6ii Software: Audacity, Fission, xAct _**audio downloads**_ _these will automatically download when you click them:_ **** **16 bit, 44.1 kHz FLAC files (139 MB)** _lossless files that can be burned to a CDR_ **320 kbps mp3 files (104 MB)** _highest quality mp3 files possible_ _video of David performing at Elastic in Chicago in March 2024:_

Comments like this one I saw under a video of someone playing a Webern piano piece make me so mad I could slam someone's head through a table

I agree. I'm not convinced either. And Webern & Berg are much more appealing. Sometimes, Schoenberg's music feels dogmatic - like he's proving how smart he is. But maybe I'm not smart enough to get it.

I like Humphrey Searle's music too.

Great Piece.
I was dumbfounded when I went to college to study composition and my professors were still stuck on Schoenberg. One of my first arguments was about how much better Webern & Berg were at their craft, than Schoenberg. I do like 'Pierrot Lunaire', but I'm not sold on Dodecaphonics.

Today's desert island record is DGG's 1974 recording of Webern's Passacaglia with von Karajan leading his Berlin Phil.

1999 The Originals CD remaster sounds fine. Japanese hybrid SACD (2009) and single layer (2021) are amazing as is the 2026 Original Source Series vinyl.

Transitions in music tend to be my favorites especially the transition from Late Romantic to Modern. I can't get enough of this piece. 10 minutes of bliss.

Don’t forget about using S for e-flat! For the “Motto” of his Chamber Concerto, for example, Berg uses these letters for the three leading composers of the 2nd Viennese School: ArnolD SCHönBErG, Anton wEBERn, and AlBAn BErG.

fish lips HAD NOTHING TO DO with the creation or maintenance of the Kennedy Center. And, his continued doggedness at wanting his name on it, even though he can't distinguish Wagner from Webern, isn't a reason to put his foul name onto the building.
How not surprising that a president who acts like a petty mob boss is holding one of our nation’s treasured institutions hostage until we meet his conditions—that is, putting his stupid name on the building. I say we just put it in mothballs until he is gone.
