To some, I'm a weed. To others, I'm a wish. To your lawn, I'm a hostile takeover. ✨🪖😏🤙🌿🦉🍁

This photo captures a dandelion seed head in an extreme macro close-up. Known colloquially as a "blowball" or "clock," it is the final, fluffy stage of a common dandelion. Imagine a tiny, exploding disco ball made of white feathers. The center looks like a reddish-brown pincushion, where dozens of seeds are currently crammed in like commuters on a rush-hour train. Each seed is attached to a stalk that ends in a feathery white structure called a pappus. From this angle, it looks like a fleet of miniature umbrellas waiting for the slightest breeze—or a toddler's sneeze—to stage a mass escape. Everything behind the "puffball" is a soft, blurry green, making the dandelion look like a floating celestial object in a grassy galaxy. Folklore suggests that if you blow on the head, the number of puffs it takes to clear all the seeds tells you the hour of the day. These fluffy heads are actually hydrophobic. If you dip one in water, the bristles close up to trap air, keeping the seeds dry so they can still fly away once the rain stops.
