#WelfareReformBill
#WelfareReformBill victory but at a cost. There's now a 5 Billion pound hole in the economy. There was a massive clime down. Let me remind you if #NigelFarage was in power he would wipe Billions of ALL benefits as well as privatisation of the #NHS & I'm not a fan of @LabourParty

The more we hear about the #WelfareReformBill, the more clear it is (again, as with Winter Fuel) that the Treasury is too isolated and too powerful, full of people who understand numbers but little else.

Labour MPs are rightly angry about the #WelfareReformBill, feeling it's wrong in itself but also indicative of a Prime Minster and Chancellor out of touch with their party.
They're right.

I also hate how Labour thinks putting disabled people into poverty is ok. If you want to save money, how about recoup all the money the Tories wasted on vanity projects, HS2, PPE, etc & sort out a wealth tax. AND there’s always money for wars isn’t there?

There's still time to ask your MP to oppose the Welfare Reform Bill.

Once decisions are made, we will ensure to update you with what that means for parent carers 💚

It would be terrible if images like this were shared every time pro-cuts MPs try to promote themselves/get re-elected, wouldn't it?

When I saw it was the highly compromised Meg Hillier leading the rebellion, I did wonder if the whole thing was piece of theatre to manage the rebellion and steer it off course.
Looks like that exactly what is was.

When you cut welfare for the disabled and most vulnerable in our society people die.
When you tax the rich they get one less yacht to play with.

Let’s get our priorities right.

This is me in May 2011 protesting Welfare Cuts for disabled people (that’s braille for “shafted”) - I can’t believe that we are STILL having this same argument. And with a Labour government no less. What a disgrace. #WelfareReformBill

🔊 Statement 🔊

On Tuesday the #WelfareReformBill – proposing changes to the benefits system – was passed into law.

As a result of campaigning, some of the previously proposed changes to #PersonalIndependencePayments (PIP) were removed from the bill. 💪

My weary thoughts on #WelfareReformBill TODAY.

It needs to be scrapped.

The lack of consultations from day 1 make it not fit for purpose.

Start again, get representative orgs of all sizes to contribute FROM DAY 1.

THEN, when an appropriate framework has been created, put it

New welfare changes are unfair, worsen incentives, and deliver no savings. Flawed fiscal rules can’t justify damaging cuts or regressive policy. We challenge both the policy and the thinking behind it.

Labour MP Joani Reid told BBC Radio Scotland she will vote for Labour’s #WelfareReformBill because “disabled people are languishing on benefits”
Reid dismissed concerns of her colleagues, & UK disability groups about Labour’s bill: not one disability advocacy group is supporting the bill. Not one.
