Finally pulled the trigger on joining this app, so I guess I'll introduce myself! I'm a Fisheries Biologist with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe in Idaho, working to protect Bull Trout and Westslope Cutthroat Trout in the Coeur d'Alene Basin (among other research!)

I'd love to see genetics of these huge "westslope cutthroat" that spawn alongside Gerrard rainbows in the Clark Fork River. If westslopes rarely exceed 20 inches, why is a 27 inch fish believable? I would guess outliers of this magnitude are cutbows, which are sampled regularly via electrofishing. 🐟

2 pages from one of my hardcover sketchbooks; at top is a pasted-in watercolour sketch of a westslope cutthroat trout, a plump fish with a light olive green back shading through bright golden, through to an orange belly. Unevenly-distributed, heavy black spots cover its back and increase to completely cover its caudal peduncle and tail fin. Notes in pencil surrounding the fish remind me of features to remember when i'm back home able to paint a more detailed portrait. Notes also mention that it was 17 inches long, male (the longish jaws are an indication) and that i caught it on a size 14 Usual fly. On the page below is a loose watercolour sketch of a rugged grey mountain looming over a meadow surrounded by black spruce forest, with a creek running through it. note says "Big Creek behind our camp Aug 16"
