Look at the politicians that have broadcasting in their brief? Who runs your political programmes on CBC? Who are the news editors?

If they're normalising things that don't stack up: get curious!

There's an argument for it, certainly, but the 2010-2020 Govt basically answered that when John Whittingdale threatened to (and kind of did) destroy their funding cos the Government didn't like what they were saying.

The political secretary to Thatcher at the time, John Whittingdale, later recalled having to explain the joke to the prime minister

My odious ex MP (I moved) was chairman: John Whittingdale. He is famously attracted to eastern European ladies but has gone very quiet on Russia since the invasion.

earn 7.5% more than non-disabled colleagues. Former Culture Secretary Sir John Whittingdale said BBC employees should be paid according to the “value and merit they contribute”, regardless of race, sexuality, or gender.

The Conservative Friends of Russia knew.
Especially Alexander & Carrie Johnson & Whippy Whittingdale.
Farage and Spaffer Johnson know better, of course.

Oh this is…fun? A “founding member” of Conservative Friends of Putin, sorry Russia. Matthew Elliott. Pivotal 🇬🇧 Atlas Network guy, self-styled “think tank entrepreneur.”
If the UK is now looking into Russian interference in Brexit, maybe a key might also be “Tufton St” (approx 🇬🇧 Atlas).

Anti-SLAPP laws are meant to stop the powerful silencing critics. What happens when the powerful party is the newspaper?

SLAPPs and the press: why the Anti-SLAPP Bill is the wrong answer
The private members Bill promoted by Baroness Stowell and Sir John Whittingdale would apply to any claim touching a matter of public interest, however meritorious and however properly brought. Hacked Off sets out why it would harm victims of press abuse, and why section 40 was the better answer.

The Bill would apply to any claim touching a matter of public interest — whether or not it is abusive, whether or not it is meritorious.

I did, but got an eloquent brush-off from John Whittingdale ...
"I was a strong supporter of Brexit, and I remain convinced that the right course is to make full use of the freedoms it secured rather than to drift back towards closer alignment with Brussels."

The BBC budget was severely impacted by forcing the BBC to foot the bill for the over 75s free TV licence. This was introduced by John Whittingdale when Minister for Culture Media and Sport. He was also one of the founding members of “Conservative Friends of Russia” in 2012. 1/2

Sir John Whittingdale negotiated the last BBC Charter and later steered the Media Act 2024.

On Beeb Watch he talks about this Charter review, the funding squeeze on the BBC, “trusted news” plans, GB News, billionaire-backed media and how far governments should shape PSB.
