made possible by wifibox which does the funniest possible thing: it runs an alpine vm in bhyve and passes your wifi card through so you can use linux drivers.

This is a bit more like it. Swapped KDE Plasma 6 for xfce4. I find it interesting that KDE feels so much heavier on FreeBSD than it did Slackware on this machine. Still working on wifibox to get my not supported qca9377 wifi working. (hardwired for now) #FreeBSD #BSD #Slackware #Linux

Issues I've come across is I've gotten so used to KDE on Nvidia running at 1920x1080, that the AMD gpu running at 1366x768 seems almost Fisher-Price. No native driver for qca9377, so trying to setup wifibox for wireless. So far so good tho #FreeBSD #Slackware

So this hardware (Dell Inspiron 3585) isn't as impressive as my ThinkPad P52s that's currently running #Slackware, but for #FreeBSD, I think I can make it work. Decided on KDE Plasma 6 and now thinking maybe I should head back to xfce. Overall its up and running well! #BSD #Linux

KDE Plasma 6 on FreeBSD 14.3 on my Lenovo ThinkPad T480:

- Intel iGPU working via i915kms ✅
- Audio working out of the box ✅
- Intel AX210 WIFI via wifibox ✅

Power consumption is still worse than under Linux (3,5h vs. 5h+) but I'll try to optimize that […]
