Folks living in the path of LA fires, please check the toxicity of your soil, especially *before* moving dirt & debris around.

There are funds for free soil testing for Altadena, & insurance covers some also. See my posts on how each debris removal dusts neighbors… 1/3 come up with contaminants.
Our soil study is with Duke U. @jstpwalsh.bsky.social & I will dig & test again soon. LMU, Davis & others also have studies. 🌱
"Tariff movies to save L.A.!!!!"
(how about focusing on getting the people of L.A. some damn soil tests **like the federal government has done for every other major fire except this one** so parents can know if it's safe for their kids to play outside.)

🌲 Keeping our forests healthy and building wildfire resilience starts with growing strong, native trees.

Producing enough #seedlings to meet the statewide need remains a top priority, and each one contributes to long-term recovery.

Since 1978, Cal Forest Nurseries has grown 20 million seedlings a year to help restore California’s forests. Thanks to state grants, they’re expanding to meet the growing need.

OMG yes. Statewide rent freeze NOW.
#LAFires #WildfireRecovery
One thing Newsom should do *right now* is a statewide rent freeze. They did it during lockdown, they can do it again. And yes, statewide, because every landlord within 200 miles of LA is eagerly waiting for fire refugees to move into their area.
What can we expect to come from these fires?

Housing is fucked. Rents will skyrocket. Homelessness will go up. People will leave the area. Unemployment will expand. The film and tv industry is even more screwed. Building materials will run short. Infrastructure repairs will bankrupt cities.

Altadena is networking with other communities, such as Lahaina, where Treecovery Hawaii has raised $500K to help residents replant fruit trees, and Maui County, which has developed a strategic plan focused on the cultural and ecological importance of native trees. #wildfirerecovery
Two months after the Eaton fire, the Altadena Seed Library is using its seedbank to help residents restore the landscape with plants that can bioremediate soil toxins while retaining soil moisture. #wildfirerecovery
What it takes to regrow a community after wildfire
As it recovers, Altadena looks to other wildfire-devastated communities that have replanted lawns, gardens, and green spaces with fire-resistant native species.
