Parallels for Mac even does WinPE USB passthrough for USB Security Keys. Pretty slick experience overall. If you're a pro the cost is just worth it instead of dicking around IMO. Ask your corp if you can get an Autopilot enrollment for your VM, it works.

I didn’t get to choose the fact that WinPE was initially one of the first Software Assurance benefits for Windows. It was pushed that direction.

I have to keep a sewing needle in my case of imaging tools because we still have 12 ratty old Lenovo laptops that need to be stabbed in the side of the chassis with an exceptionally thin object (a paperclip is too big) to select the boot disk

If you boot into some local copy of winpe or network boot winpe from PXE, you can run "net use Z: [insert smb share here]" to mount it as a storage device and then run setup.exe. The tricky part with the 3DS is that nothing supports SMB 1.0 anymore

The first time I ran a prototype WIM-based install of Windows XP, the OS and WinPE fit on one quick-booting CD, and slapped the OS down on disk in under three minutes. Not an upgrade, mind you. But still.
Sitting here waiting for a belated upgrade of 24H2 to finish… so… slow…

Someone should rebuild how Windows is installed, so installs and updates don’t have to be so gigantic, and can happen really fast.
