October 19 1999, WinBack: Covert Operations debuted on the N64 in the Americas!

After making a TON of strategy/action games such as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Warriors titles.. Winback was developer/publisher KOEI's attempt to branch out into new genres!

I think the spirit of this question should forbid Rare games as well. So with that said,

Winback.
In your opinion, what is the best N64 game that isn’t Mario or Zelda related?

For #RandomGameSaturday this week, I've grabbed Operation Winback.

Developed by Omega Force before they made the juggernaut that was Dynasty Warriors, this is a third person shooter with one of the earliest examples of cover-based shooting in a video game that I can think of.

July 7 2000, Operation: Winback debuted on the N64 in PAL territories!

The game was one of developer Koei's first attempts at moving away from strategy games such as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series; they did well and it went on to influence cover based mechanics for decades!

Ihan uskomatonta.

Though Tecmo didn't specifically develop any Nintendo 64 games, they did later merge with Koei who worked on Mahjong 64 and Winback!
