Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, the upcoming action-soulslike sequel from Team Ninja (Nier, Ninja Gaiden), will be released on March 4, 2027 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S (including day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), and Nintendo Switch 2. Meanwhile, a free playable alpha demo is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The demo will only be active for a limited time, from now through September 30. Team Ninja says that the demo includes an in-progress character creator to try out as well as online multiplayer for up to three players. "Fans can explore the open field of Changban, join forces with Liu Bei’s army in fierce battles against the pursuing forces of Cao Cao, and encounter demons inspired by legendary Chinese classics," the developer said. In addition, anyone who plays and completes the demo will unlock the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet cosmetic item for use in the full game. The original Wo Long was released in early 2023 and our resident soulslike superfan Mitchell Saltzman thought it was great, saying, "When it comes to the clashing of melee weapons, Wo Long is among the best in the genre, full stop." We also had it at #6 in our list of top-10 soulslikes published later in 2023. Wo Long 2 was announced at this year's Xbox Showcase.

L’annuncio è stato accompagnato da un trailer inedito focalizzato sulla data di lancio. Il seguito dell’apprezzato capitolo originale sposterà l’azione all’interno di vaste aree aperte ed iconici campi di battaglia del periodo dei Tre Regni, tra cui spiccano la Battaglia di Changban e la Battaglia delle Scogliere Rosse. La storia seguirà le vicende di un guerriero legato al potere della fenice, mosso da un profondo desiderio di vendetta nei confronti delle forze di Cao Cao in un mondo infestato da demoni grotteschi. Il comparto di gioco promette importanti evoluzioni strutturali: Arti Marziali Coreografiche: Il sistema di combattimento alternerà repentine manovre offensive e difensive, arricchite dall’introduzione delle Insight Skills per schivare e sfruttare la tridimensionalità del terreno. Esplorazione Verticale: I giocatori esploreranno scenari complessi come fortezze arroccate sulle montagne o basi celate nelle valli profonde, raggiungibili esclusivamente tramite movimenti verticali. Strategia sul Campo: Sarà essenziale incrementare il morale sfidando avversari temibili e reclutare gli ufficiali nemici per indebolire le linee delle fazioni opposte.

Sorti en 2023, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty a fait figure de parenthèse pour Koei Tecmo, coincé entre l'exigence de la saga Nioh et les ambitions de Rise of the Ronin. Plus accessible dans ses mécaniques de build et de combat, le titre n’a pourtant pas rencontré le même succès commercial que ses aînés. Il brillait néanmoins par un système de combat viscéral, résolument tourné vers l'offensive et articulé autour d'une mécanique de parade jouissive, rappelant Sekiro dans l'esprit. Seul bémol : un premier boss à la difficulté si punitive qu'il a agi comme un mur insurmontable pour de nombreux joueurs.
