If so, good but entirely possible the “panic” is just another manipulation to help ensure they retain enough power, by encouraging people to slack off. It’s wild. On the one hand, we have to worry if we can even flip either chamber but on the other they are whispering about a wipeout.

It literally has to be a wipeout for Democracy to happen. Impeachment requires 2/3 of Congress to be controlled by one party now, since it won't happen based on the good governance of Republicans. They've made their bed.
