[ Perfect Flow Company Manse — Upstairs Lounge ] Mariko Kazama lies on one of the L-shaped couches, her head and shoulders propped on the large pillow in the corner, scrolling on her Garlond tomephone. Margot Weisshexer sits on the other end of the long part of the L, reading a book. Mariko is surprised by what she sees. She mutters, "Gods above! How does this keep happening?" Turning her hand over to reveal the screen to her friend, she calls out, "Margot, look at this! Who is this? How is this possible?" We look closely at the screen, and it depicts a red-headed highlander woman who looks very similar to Margot — even wearing her hair in a style that Margot formerly chose — lying on a beach, her head propped up on her hands, her skin glistening in the twilight. This not-Margot wears a very confident smile as she gazes at the viewer. Margot ... overreacts. Her "What?" begins as a befuddled whisper and endures through a long crescendo, culminating in a horrified scream.

"Mariko!" she exclaims. "I'm so touched! You really did come to see us off! Thank you ever so much for all you've done. It was an honor to tour Eorzea with you, and bring strength and succor to its people." Nashmeira, the leader and manager of the Troupe nods. "Ranaa and I will remain in Limsa," she informs Mariko. "Pray come back and visit us on occasion, won't you? Ranaa gets awfully lonely without company." Ranaa begins to protest, "Hey, that's not—" But then she pauses, and admits, "Well, I suppose it is true." Then she turns back to Mariko. "Keep dancing, Mariko, and let us eagerly await the day that we can take the stage together again!" [ Yes, there's a damn typo on the picture. Baderon's eyes widen slightly. "And she ran up the stairs with..." "Mmmmm hm," Mytesin responds. Baderon smiles and shakes his head with a sagely "Huh." Young Minfilia was haunted by the memory of the day she lost her father, every time she passed the site of the accident. Thancred may not know the cure, but he carries a temporary balm, with a certain flavor of her homeland.

#FFXIV #WoLcomics #hyur #Febhyurary
[ Ul'dah — Emerald Avenue ] Thancred Waters accompanies a young Minfilia Warde down Emerald Avenue, near the place where a runaway goobbue caused the death of her father, Warburton. Minfilia gasps, stops, then looks down at the ground, crossing her arms defensively about herself. Thancred turns toward her, a look of protective concern across his face. He reaches out a comforting hand and offers, "Come, we can turn down Ruby Road and go through the—" Minfilia, though still unable to look up, frowns and interrupts in protest. "No," she snarls, more at herself than at Thancred. "This is absurd. I should bloody well be able to walk down any street I choose. I but need... encouragement." She looks up at Thancred plaintively, and he smiles and produces a lute. After a moment's consideration, he improvises: ♫ O come ye wayward daughter, ♫ Bereft of hearth and home, ♫ Beneath yon gilded gate there lies ♫ A market for the bold. It is a rewording of the anthem of Ala Mhigo, Minfilia's homeland. Minfilia, comforted and perhaps even amused by the gesture, smiles tearfully up at him, and appears ready to continue. They resume walking toward the gate to Sapphire Avenue, as Thancred improvises a second verse: ♫ Raise up your heads and voices, ♫ Let fill your hearts with pride, ♫ Upon the dusty cobbles we ♫ Stand strong and unified.

Margot Weisshexer, in a loose blue neo-tunic and shorts, sleeps in her alcove bed in her apartment in The Empyreum. The scene flashes within her dream. We see four Ancients standing in a tight group somewhere in Elpis. They all wear white robes with various colors of facemask, indicating that they are former members of the Convocation of Fourteen. From left to right, there is a burly man with thinning hair and a full beard and moustache, reminiscent of Dargo; a tall, dark-skinned man with long black hair, pointed ears, and bright orange eyes, similar to Largo; a tall, strong woman with long black hair and black facepaint on her pale skin, nearly identical to Treurenbloem; and a shorter girl with fair skin and short-cropped strawberry-blonde hair, much like Mariko. The Largo-like man in the center, Aoidos, is pleading with someone. "Our respite from the Final Days grows short," he says. "A second Offering is already being discussed. We have done all we can to forestall the Convocation. Please, Clio, we need your help. What have you discovered?" The dream view shifts, and we see Clio — a woman with long red hair and green eyes, hauntingly like Margot. She has something to say, but can barely utter the words, choking back bitter tears. "I... I know what we have to do," she finally responds. "What *She* has to do." We snap back to Margot's reality as the dream startles her awake. She stares wide-eyed at the ceiling in terror. "No," she groans. "No, no, no, no! It's just a dream. Nothing more... Surely... Only a dream! It cannot be..."

Largo, Y'shtola, Hien, and Alisaie stand at the edge of The Burn, looking out onto the blasted landscape. Aethereally-drained dust swirls around them in the wind. Largo stands in awe, mouth slightly agape; the others look on grimly. A clear, colorless crystal juts out of a wind-blasted rock some distance away. Ominous clouds loom on the horizon. "We've arrived at The Burn," Y'shtola announces to the group. "Once a temperate and verdant land, drained of nearly every bit of ambient aether by Allagan attempts to amplify summoning, nigh devoid of life. If indeed their ship landed here, we'd best be on our way." Largo lifts his arms wide and smiles. "It's... ... It's beautiful!" he cries. Y'shtola's eyes turn toward him suspiciously, as she assumes her characteristic "lost in thought" pose. Hien twists to look at Largo, dumbfounded. Alisaie looks enraged. At the headwaters of the Velodyna River, deep in the eastern reaches of the Black Shroud, Fordola rem Lupis and Margot Weisshexer, outfitted as members of the Ala Mhigan Defense Force, have dispatched a patrol of Twin Adder forces, who now lay scattered about a small clearing. The sisters stand back to back with weapons still drawn, scanning the area for any further threats. Fordola looks over her shoulder, uneasily scanning the edge of the clearing. "So goes another sad bunch uninterested in a parlay with those who would be their neighbors," she laments cynically. "Bloody mad fools, thinking they'd sneak their way into Gyr Abania by floating down the Velodyna on rafts. Whoever's commanding the Twin Adders needs a lengthy vacation in the nearest sanitarium." She sheathes her curved sword, and Margot echoes the gesture, stowing her rapier and gem focus. Margot crosses her arms and turns toward her sister with a doleful expression. "The deed is done," she sighs, "though the relief is, as ever, outweighed by heartache." She then turns toward someone at the edge of the clearing. Fordola follows her gaze. "We could not have done it without your help, old friend," she calls out, "but I must ask, why would you betray your countrymen's plans to us?" From the shadows, a miqo'te emerges, armed with a longbow, and dressed in silks of black, orange, and white. Her fierce green eyes glimmer from under her long black hair. She is Z'hasmi-ina Tohrrl, former retainer of Largo Canzondolore. "Pah!" she scoffs in response to Margot's question. "Gridania is no homeland of mine. I and my kind have already been cast aside. We were the next to be expelled after the Ala Mhigan expatriates." Z'hasmi-ina approaches the two Ala Mhigan defenders confidently, their friendship, and recent cooperation, assuring a truce. "Largo told us all, when the time came, to follow the road that felt right," she explains. "As much as any path can feel right in this world, mine has led me here."

"Twelve preserve!" she exclaims. "You're... you're ME!" The double approaches cautiously, struggling to defuse the volatile situation. "Not quite," she corrects her other self, "but I believe that I can provide some degree of explana—" The double's words are cut off as both she and Minfilia double over in pain. Aether swirls around them and between them, a phenomenon familiar to those who have served among the Scions. Y'shtola, standing nearby, calmly assesses the situation. Raubahn Aldynn and Margot Weisshexer stand on a parapet overlooking the liberated city of Ala Mhigo. The former "Ala Mhigan Quarter" of the imperial-occupied city is bustling with activity below them. The two white griffins that carried them to this dizzying height wait patiently nearby. Raubahn gazes out upon the capital of his beloved homeland with tears welling in his eyes. "Ala Mhigo. Free of tyrants. Deciding her own fate," he mutters, half to himself, as if he needs an occasional reminder that it is still true. Margot turns her head to catch him smiling. "Every time I look at this city, the joy of that day washes over me anew. She has her problems, aye, but we're on our own feet." Margot looks away, hands on her hips, smiling wryly. "Ishgard was able to fund much of their reconstruction after the Dragonsong War by opening up the Empyreum district to adventurers," she says with an innocent affect. "I can't help but notice all these beautiful, vacated residences all over the old Imperial Quarter. Makes me wonder how much money we could raise for Ala Mhigo by offering a chance to buy them to certain interested expatriates..." She turns back toward Raubahn, grinning mischievously, only to find that he is looking at her with a similar expression, catching on to her intent.

Margot Weisshexer, outfitted in her usual botanist gear of white shirt, leather skirt over shorts, and rugged boots, picks her way through the underbrush in the Shroud of the Samgha, the forested area in the north of Thavnair. The bright tropical sun illuminates the variegated layers of rock in the distant hillside, and dances off the leaves of the trees and underbrush below. She finds what she is looking for — a leafy shrub near the edge of a winding creek. Kneeling to examine the plant, she contemplates her unusual situation. "I wonder why Maru was so interested in this one specific type of plant. He's never sent me on a botanical errand before." "It seems related to a species of edible fern," she guesses. "Is it a spice, perhaps? Some sort of medicinal herb? Or maybe—" Ever curious, and confident that she has at least some idea of what she's about to do, she nibbles on one of the leaves. More quickly than she could imagine, her world is awash in swirls of color and light. She stands up abruptly, becomes dizzy, and staggers backward, clumsily attempting to hold her head in her hands and regain her balance. Through the haze of disorientation, her last coherent thought is a realization of what Maru might plan to do with this order.
