Shoving off the river bed, he broke the surface again, water running down his face, and he threw his arms in the air. He turned around, floating in the water, to grin at Soap. He leapt up, arms raised as well, teeth bared as he leapt off the rock too, hitting the water right in front of Simon in a streak of brown scales and brown hair. He went all the way under this time, disappearing in a cloud of white bubbles, and Simon shrieked when he wrapped his arms around his waist. Soap surged up to the surface again, lifting Simon up and almost out of the water. He yelped, staring down at Soap, clinging to his shoulders so if he fell he'd take him down too, chest heaving and cheeks aching with his grin. Soap stared up at him, smile just as wide, eyes soft. Neither of them said a word. Screenshot reads: It felt like a thunderstorm had just rolled in, static electricity sticking Simon's wet skin to Soap's. Soap wasn't looking him in the eyes, gaze lower, chin, nose… lips maybe, and he tipped his head back a little, gaze flicking to Simon's for a split second before it flicked back down again. Simon's heart thudded in his chest, and he dropped his forehead down onto Soap's, avoiding his antennae, neck suddenly weak. Their faces were so close. Their bodies were so close, Simon flush against Soap's front, his scales pressing into Simon's ribs, and a laugh burst out of him, face so, so hot. He wiggled in Soap's arms, and Soap let him go, floating back a little way so they weren't still nose to nose. His cheeks were pink too. Neither of them said a word.

He nudged Soap gently. "Can I- um- could…" He didn't know how much a haircut would cost. Soap had already spent too much money on him, buying him clothes and something to eat, and he had yet to buy a notebook like he'd insisted he would. Simon pulled a face, shoulders a little curled in on himself at the embarrassment of asking for yet another thing. "Could I get… could I get my hair cut?" he whispered, and Soap beamed. "Yeah! Totally, definitely!" He nodded emphatically, smile only widening. "Do you wanna do it now? The place Menta usually gets her hair cut should be open, we could go there."

He couldn't wear trousers to church, because as much as he wished the opposite, he was a girl. "So you don't actually feel like you're a guy?" Soap asked. "Well- no, I- I do- sort of… it's- I want to be a boy, but that doesn't make me one…" Simon chewed on the inside of his cheek, eyes locked on Soap's face. "Does it?" He whispered, because he was almost scared to find out the answer.

Fransisco stepped into the living room, shutting the door to the stairs behind him. "Simone- Simon, sorry. You don't have to answer her. That's insensitive, Menta." A smile crept onto her face, though, almost smug as she glanced between Simon and the TV. "Well, uh… just so you know, you can do that here. Y'know, just in case you have your eyes on someone. You don't have to worry about, like, going to hell or anything. It's totally normal to date and kiss someone you like."

Spent all day doing this and as usual, i took the original scope of my project and trippled it. I wanted to animate his anxious antennae wiggles, then it looked weird without some blinking and fast breathing

I can make a note of it, that there are children in there who are in active danger, if you tell me how he threatened to hurt her, but there's only so much I can do right now." Simon stared at him, face getting hot and tight. "Then why the fuck are you here!?" His voice exploded out of him, echoing around the little room like the Monsignor's echoed around the Church every morning and night. "Why the fuck am I talking to you if you're not going to do anything!? I thought it was your job to help people!?" His chair scraped over the floor loudly and his thighs ached as he stood, glaring down at Reyes. His nails dug into his palms and he wanted to round the table and slap Reyes because why the fuck was he there!? When Reyes introduced himself he said he helped get places like la Existencia shut down! Was that just bullshit!?

It didn't matter that it made his skin crawl. It didn't matter that it made something in his brain writhe like a worm realising it wasn't going to make it across the dry, dusty path to the next patch of soft, damp dirt.

He didn't lift his head, though, just reached a scaled hand across to pick up one of Simon's, lacing their fingers together. It made Simon's heart skip painfully, something like the panic he'd felt earlier, when Soap had first come down into the basement of the ruin… lighter, though. Less terror, more… he didn't really know. The spikes on Soap's knuckles were worn down, not filed away entirely, but definitely blunted,and he squeezed Simon's hand gently. Simon did his best to squeeze back. Soap probably couldn't even feel the minute twitch of Simon's fingers between his, but it was all the strength Simon could muster up.

I- I… I don't know what happened, if someone… I need to have a look, though, okay?" Simon wanted to shake his head, but he didn't have the energy, so he just lay there, tried to ignore the ridiculous panic that grabbed hold of him when his skirt started moving, peeling up off his skin. It almost hurt, glued down with sweat and dried blood and God knew what else.

Simon screamed as he scrambled out the other side of the fence. He was on the river beach. He hadn't been on the river beach in years. He dragged in a shuddering, sobbing breath, whirling back round to look at the hole in the fence, the arms reaching through it, flailing around hoping they'd snare him. He needed to go. He was out so he needed to go. Mateo's head and one shoulder came through the hole in the fence and he yowled as Simon's heel slammed into his forehead. he didn't even get to think about it. Mateo disappeared back the way he'd come with a roar of pain, and Simon's chest heaved. He was going to vomit up the air he was breathing. He was out. He was on the river beach. Soap wasn't there. Of course Soap wasn't there. Simon screamed because he wanted Soap. He was alone. Wood cracked and splintered and Simon threw himself into the river. The Sentinels were trying to break through, rip the hole in the fence open further so they could fit. The river was freezing, icy, muddy water slicing into Simon's already wounded left thigh. It was going to get infected. If he lived long enough.

I don't post my backgrounds (& foregrounds in this case) enough, because in finished pieces they're usually blurred for depth of field stuff. They do start out as fully detailed pieces in their own right tho.
