The last time I saw this brought up was when the LA Weekly was still doing journalism. No-one has addressed it because it’s mostly poors living in SoCal floodplains neighborhoods. Densely-built single-family woodframe housing. It will be catastrophic.

They're much better than nothing, but Stephen is working on (1) making elevators way cheaper so that walkups can go the way of the dinosaur, and (2) making soundproof construction easier and less expensive so that woodframe isn't the only cheap option.

I've plausibly done more to legalize missing middle housing than maybe a few hundred other people in the US, but would I ever live in a downstairs unit of a low-rise woodframe stacked duplex or fourplex unless (a) I owned the thing or (b) I had extreme trust in the management? Absolutely not.
