Woodlice take care of their babies until they mature. Here a protective parent rests a flagellum on a baby. #Crustmas

Clitopilus hobsonii on rotten wood (with bonus woodlouse).

Seen at Shouldham Warren on Sunday on a Norfolk Fungus Study Group foray.

If there were ever a “nature’s best pin-cushion mimic” contest, this pill woodlouse (Calmanesia erinaceus) would surely be among the top contenders.

Always a treat to see my favourite woodlouse, Platyarthrus hoffmannseggii (aka Ant Woodlouse), this one especially as it's in our garden with Yellow Meadow Ants (Lasius flavus). The woodlouse is blind but sensitive to light so scurries off when exposed. They feed on detritus in the ant nest.

Woodlice found under one log in Bawsinch Nature Reserve, Duddingston. I think these are Common Rough Woodlouse (Porcellio scaber), Common Shiny Woodlouse (Oniscus asellus) and Common Striped Woodlouse (Philoscia muscorum). #Crustmas #Inverts #Photography #Macro @scotwildlife.bsky.social

The skirted #woodlouse has a shiny, almost metallic look. 💖 Adults are mottled gray, though their colors can vary. The name "woodlouse" likely comes from how it clings to surfaces—just like a true louse!
