Who doesn’t love the name Woolloomooloo?
Five years ago today, overnight showers had soaked the boards of the Woolloomooloo Bay boardwalk, but Sydney still managed a delightful spring dawn.
And please note, the dragon is a chainmail replica, so no training was required.

I was in Woolloomooloo around that time. Corruption was absurdly obvious. Police were essentially drug dealers.

A favourite place name for Sydneysiders, Australians generally, but certainly for foreigners is Woolloomooloo.
I’m here early, it’s still and cool, with a clear sky and a slight hint of dawn blue.
And another favourite is the Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf.

This inviting structure is a pedestrian and cycle overpass that connects Woolloomooloo to The Domain and the Art Gallery of NSW. Another Sydney attraction.

A Woolloomooloo noir scene.
Reid Avenue was named after George Reid, NSW Premier, 1894-99.
An older corner of Sydney, known by Sydneysiders as The Loo.

I do go on about the Harbour City, the Emerald City, Warrane (the name used by Gadigal people).
Sydney is a delight especially when you are by yourself, and it is empty.
Next to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, looking across Woolloomooloo Bay, Garden Island sleeps.

I like unusual light, and I don’t mind functionality in architecture.
So this public loo in Wullamulla Park in Sydney’s Woolloomooloo caught my eye.

How to spell WOOLLOOMOOLOO
March 11, 2025 at 11:40 PM
I should not have to learn to spell Woolloomooloo. It's an unreasonable expectation.

After dinner in Woolloomooloo in '23 — quiet boardwalk, soft glow of the lamps, and the harbour at rest. Taken with iPhone 11

After a very noisy and flashy thunderstorm last night, I went down to inspect the metal sculptures on the boardwalk at Woolloomooloo Bay.
No strikes it seems, but a pretty broody Sydney dawn.

Woolloomooloo has a few possible meanings from the first Australians. I’ve found young black kangaroo; place of plenty; burial ground; and field of blood. More recently it has meant working class area, wharfies, navy, meat pie and community.
And a good dawn today.
