A nice lift on a grotty Monday morning, for me that is. For the reader perhaps a more challenging experience.

You have only yourself to blame for getting me started on the subject of love.
Apologies for the self-promotion
Love Love is fine in theory, but in most cases the theory is disproved by examination under real world conditions. It still works though, in the same way that the theory of Santa Claus works on gullible children. I will therefore continue to be good. J Huw Evans Poem Title: Love is Crap Love is crap Love makes you kick the hoover And break its handle. Love makes you dent walls With thrown mugs And stain the carpet With the slops not checked for Love destroys potential Pollutes memories It ruins the teeth ground in your sleep. It provokes long self-examination Of miserable faces In precarious mirrors and Makes worthless the life that is examined. Love inspires crap poems but can’t take the blame for them being posted on Bluesky. J Huw Evans Poem Title: Love Inspiration: After To Althea from Prison by Richard Lovelace. 1618-1658 I lie awake and think of you. Too much. I know that you don’t think of me at all Like a cliff thoughtless of the waterfall. I lie awake imagining your touch. “I love you”, to your receding back I call. You look at me as if I’m speaking Dutch. You look at me as if I’m speaking Dutch. I can’t help it. I’m caught within your thrall. Stone walls and bars do not a prison make So dark as this in which I prowl and pace, A prisoner of walls that all bear your face. A life sentence with no parole, no break. And still you haven’t thought of me at all Like a cliff heedless of a climber’s fall. J Huw Evans Poem Title: Paper Cuts From Love Poems All paper cuts sting but Love poems make the roughest wounds dirty jagged little incisions that never seem to heal. J Huw Evans

Happy #WorldPoetryDay! 📖✨

Did you know hedgehogs have inspired writers for generations? From folklore to children’s literature, their solitary nighttime journeys often symbolise resilience, curiosity & calm.

We think they’re a lot like poetry itself — small & perfectly formed 🦔 💚

It’s #WorldPoetryDay so here’s a set of limericks I wrote while finishing a pub crawl in Cork.
Welcome One, Welcome All In yellow and green Can’t say that it’s clean. But the glowing hearth heats While the crocked man bleats Of Everton scrums unseen. I promised no more But I said this before In a pub with no light And Beamish delight So I ask another pour. Now, I can’t pretend That I can fully defend A club with a tone Of Never Walk Alone And a match to attend. Yet my night is finished As heat is diminished Across the Rebel County While the patron’s bounty Has made my wallet thinnest.

Poesia, poesia che rimani
il mio profondo rimorso,
oh aiutami tu a ritrovare
il mio alto paese abbandonato –
Poesia che ti doni soltanto
a chi con occhi di pianto
si cerca –

In the dim light, of what looks like a bookshop, a lady wearing glasses tries to take a photo of jazz. A candle lit table of cans and glasses in a room of people listening A poem, being read. In the darkness we can see books, and pillars and an audience, and instruments and a poet, poeting.

Fun fact: My first publications were not scientific articles, but rather, angsty poems 😂

Poetry can take the form of self-expression, connecting with others, cultural heritage, political activism, you name it. I missed #WorldPoetryDay yesterday, but rereading some of my favorites today 😊
A picture of me when I was a junior in high school with a sign that says, “Congrats Angie Achorn. Published poet in A Celebration of Poets.”
