It would’ve been so much simpler if teleports were mini wormholes or something. Obviously not real, but does all the same stuff without those particular plot problems.

Wormholes are naturally occurring phenomena, but most of them are so small as to not be noticed. Nothing stopping you from grabbing one in a Casimir vise and moving it where you need it though. Natural wormholes big enough to be useful are vanishingly rare, but they do exist.

There are rabbit holes and interstellar wormholes. This falls somewhere in between - and it's a lovely reward for deep fandom.

There are rabbit holes and interstellar wormholes. This falls somewhere in between - and it's a lovely reward for deep fandom.
i agree they definitely dip into the woo, but "maybe wormholes can be made and the throat stabilized to allow traversal" is probably not in the exact same category of hopium as "we can get ftl with smart enough AI"

Could do this with single-use wormholes. Travel there and back to set up a pair, and then on the day of the function you just go to and from via the wormholes

I think we need a whole new system predicated on really different values, beliefs and ways of being - which will take more than wormholes - it's going to take at least one template that maps out a route.
Which is what I'm working towards.
