E Nesbit wrote so many wonderful books, including 'Four Children and It' and 'The Phoenix and the Carpet' along with, of course, 'The Railway Children' but they're for another day. Who remembers 'THE WOULDBEGOODS", with the Bastables and Foulkeses TRYING to do good deeds?

I had the same E. Nesbit editions, plus some older iterations of The Treasure Seekers and The Wouldbegoods.
Nesbit is better known for her children's literature, whether sentimental (The Railway Children), comical (The Wouldbegoods), or magical (The Enchanted Castle). The only one of her horror stories I've read is Man-Size in Marble, which was predictable. Sorry to hear the rest are no better!
