I plot scene by scene with a rough idea of what'll be in each, then freestyle those scenes. That balances coherence & breathing room, for me.

Just writing every day with a set goal helps me. Also, writing sprints for up to 30 minutes is very helpful. Just...WRITEWRITEWRITE!! And the consistent results speak for themselves.

When I was writing my dissertation, I sometimes started to just writewritewrite. Then later I figured out why what I had written was important and where it fit. I didn't know what I know now, which is that it has a name: reverse outlining.
Aahh, at least it's not cut in the middle of anything, lol, but yeah, I get that, iv been writing a story with my gf and a personal one and sometimes your brain is just "WRITEWRITEWRITE" but refuses to give you actual ideas for it lol

I love that framing: "writing hot and editing cold." This may be a stupid question, but is it literal (as in, you're physically warm vs. chilly), or does it mean you writewritewrite and then slow down to edit (or a third thing!)
