Tiny flowers and glimmering stones shimmered in her locks like frost at dawn, like ice clinging to petals. Rather than masking her natural beauty, the adornments served only to enhance it, lending her the look of a woodland nymph — wild, pure, and inexplicably noble. She seemed a creature from another world — delicate, ethereal, subtly exalted. Every movement she made was precise to perfection: a greeting, a glance, the tilt of her head, the shift of her shoulders — each was like an aria performed in the right key. The true heiress of House Geddacht, she had lived this role from birth, and now she simply bloomed into it completely.

Weiss nodded and looked to the side and stopped mid-stride to look into the window. Ruby noticed a half second later and came back to stand next to her and look from Weiss into the window. There were three mannequins in the window each showing a different faunus trait and modeling an outfit designed with that trait in mind. Ruby shifted the bag of groceries in her hand and reached out to brush along Weiss’s hand. “Do you want to go in?” Weiss grabbed her hand. “What’s the point?” “I don’t know, maybe just curiosity.” Ruby shrugged. “I wear something like that…” Weiss paused and thought back to the alligator faunus. “I’m just going to look like I’m wearing a costume. Besides, can you imagine me trying to wear a skirt with a tail?” Ruby laughed as she pictured that. “I guess that would be kinda silly.” Weiss gave the store-front one more look before walking away, Ruby moving alongside her. “I spent years not even knowing I was supposed to have a tail. Now…” she sighed. “I don’t know how to explain imagining something that should be there that isn’t.” She felt Ruby tense in her hand and glanced over in time to see a flicker across the other girl’s face. “Yeah, I can’t imagine what that must be like.” They walked a few more feet. “So is there any problem with it being missing?” Weiss shrugged. “My tail would have been good for my balance, but I’ve spent all my life compensating for it not being there. So the doctor says the real difference is negligible.” She grimaced. “I’ve learned that I’ve had phantom limb syndrome all my life. Just lots of little twitches and pains that never made sense." “Oh, that’s gotta suck. Sorry for bringing it up.” Ruby leaned into her.lightly. “Ugh, Ruby it’s not you’re…” Weiss suddenly pulled her team leader to the side. “Look out!” They just barely missed a familiar red-head in a green dress. “Oh my! I am sorry, did I stop too shortly? I shall endeavour to keep greater aware of other pedestrians in my future. You can rest assured."
