EiE Book 1, chapter 6 (pg. 81-82): ‘In the year 403 P.I. the Reclamation task force of the united imperium was, at last, officially disbanded, as the last husk that could be found - the Queen and her corpse-star withstanding - were finally wiped from existence. On the once verdant hills of the world Ukulani the last husk fell to the glorious might of the Shrabek and Magnakari forces, and upon those same barren hills would the efforts to reseed those worlds lost to the queen commence. Using drones equipped with the most powerful radio-stabilizers available, the world was made clean and the remains of the husks ground into fine, ashen fertilizer that would nourish a new generation of life on Ukulani, and every world thereafter till all their taint was erased from the galaxy.’ He flipped through more pages, searching for a chapter title he’d seen in the book’s index, “An Empire Divided”, and found it.

It was a bubble of relief for Perry too, and for that rational part of his brain, to find that he had not been deluded by high emotions coming here. That even the mundane repetition of work and eat and sleep could be beautiful.

Natalia had always hated the phrase 'the arc of history trends towards justice.' All she ever saw history trend to was more history. Justice was an afterthought if anything at all. No, justice was something you had to grip the knife and carve yourself. By the time history deigned to get around to it, the bastards would be long gone, just for new ones to take their place. Justice wasn't waiting for all the cash to drain away while they grew fat on it, sitting in an alley eating synthetic noodles while they drank the night away at palaces in the sky. Justice was the cold iron she stared down the sights of, no matter what history might say.
