She wakes up mute. Looks in bathroom mirror, and sees the "grey, mobile, glistening" thing at the back of her throat. Makes herself sick (after that, she can speak). Feed her pet reptile (name only given) Status quo Emi Emi's home To show that there is something "off" / damaged about Emi. A dread flag. DAY 1 Commute to work? Status quo Emi Emi's home city Establishing more of character and ordinary world DAY 1 Arrives punctually at the office. Her co-worker tells her there was a call for her. Post-it on her desk with a name and number (that she doesn't recognise). Has an uncanny feeling Inciting incident Emi Emi's office Emi's voice is working fine by now. Juxtaposition of "cosiness" of work office with supportive colleagues, and the coldness of Emi's character / home life (the gap) DAY 1 Calls Anna back. Interference on phone line: (Anna): "I can hear him screaming! Screaming!" Emi has other stories she's working on and is busy, but Anna is persistent: says she'll be in town all afternoon. Emi is waiting for people to get back to her / waiting on updates from court . Emi says she'll let Anna know if she can make it. Refusal of the call. Emi Emi's office Verdict links to Emi's own experience of crime. But it's only a drink driving offence (female pillar of comminty crashed into kids playground) - doesn't connect witj the depravity Emi has experienced. It feels hollow to her as a story.

Well! After giving myself an impromptu day off on Monday, yesterday I managed to write 1,800 words!
Today’s #WritingTask is to try and get down another thousand.
I’m really feeling the finish-line Resistance at the moment though, as Steven Pressfield described in his brilliant book #TheWarOfArt

RESISTANCE IS MOST POWERFUL AT THE FINISH LINE ______________________________ Odysseus almost got home years before his actual homecoming. Ithaca was in sight, close enough that the sailors could see the smoke of their families’ fires on shore. Odysseus was so certain he was safe, he actually lay down for a snooze. It was then that his men, believing there was gold in an ox- hide sack among their commander’s possessions, snatched this prize and cut it open. The bag contained the adverse Winds, which King Aeolus had bottled up for Odysseus when the wanderer had touched earlier at his blessed isle. The winds burst forth now in one mad blow, driving Odysseus’ ships back across every league of ocean they had with such difficulty traversed, making him endure further trials and sufferings before, at last and alone, he reached home for good. The danger is greatest when the finish line is in sight. At this point, Resistance knows we’re about to beat it. It hits the panic button. It marshals one last assault and slams us with everything it’s got. The professional must be alert for this counterattack. Be wary at the end. Don’t open that bag of wind.
