UPDATE: Lawyer for govt, Drew Ensign, cited 'grave national security issue' in declining to discuss current state of the deportations in a public hearing, so judge took it private. But looks like one El Salvador-bound flight took off during a break in the hearing www.flightaware.com/live/flight/...

Gibson Spirit XPL
The Gibson Spirit XPL looks like it should have a Hamer badge on it. It's a double-cutaway electric guitar with two humbuckers, two volume controls, one tone control, and a 3-way switch. It's also got a Kahler trem, as did many other guitars that were trying to fill the super-Strat niche at the time. The only thing keeping this from going full Hamer is the 6-in-line Explorer-style headstock.

For #thinsectionthursday: a hidden treasure!

While avoiding grading, I came across this series of rocks from Rum, Scotland I had no idea my dept. had. Absolutely stunning! I can’t get enough of the cumulate textures.

They were loaned to us by someone Oxford according to the labels. ⚒️🌋
XPL image at 5X with quarter wave plate added to highlight olivine’s. Olivine cumulate with intercumulus plagioclase from Isle of Rum, Scotland. Sub-rounded to elongate olivine’s arranged in stringy-sheets like boudins. Likely originates in olivine-rich cumulate layer. Red scale bar indicates 1mm size range. XPL image at 5X objective. Gorgeous, rounded olivine > 1 mm width encased is deformed plagioclase network. Would love to see the EBSD map of this rock! Red scale bar indicates 1mm size range. XPL image, at 5 x objective. Subparallel linear fabrics of olivine's and pyroxene's...likely opx given interference color and habit? Majority of rock dominated by subeqant plagioclase. Red scale bar indicates 1mm size range. XPL image, 5X objective. Stunning example of poiokilitic texture showing oikocryst (pyroxene, Opx?) encasing olivine and plagioclase chadocrysts. Indicative of eutectic cooling.
