I dug through reams of logs that spat out so much gibberish that if something useful was in there it eluded me. I amended my xsession config, I tried both a different desktop environment AND display manager, I fucked with half a dozen Nvidia drivers as well as the Linux default, and fucking NOTHING

I've been on #Ubunutu/#Pop!_OS for ages, so i don't have another thing to go back to. 😅 But since i'm using #XSession & #i3wm i could probably just switch to #Debian and barely notice. Maybe even have more up to date software? 🤔

The fix turns out to be simple: add an entry to /usr/share/xsessions that runs /etc/X11/Xsession, and select that during login.
So simple, and yet so much time spent tracking this down...

maybe gamers & vloggers have a deep need to be able to record their Xsession, but for so many more people these days coming to Linux for the security of their daily driver apps, wayland makes that safer. banking, messaging, proprietary data (legal docs, intellectual property, etc)

oui c'est chiant et il n'y a pas qu'avec X que ça arrive 😥 je suppose que tu connais, mais le plus simple pour effacer sans avoir à redémarrer le bazar : "cat /dev/null > .Xsession-errors"

and i wasn't bullshitting about kde3 being litttttt it runs on openindiana by getting pkgutil from opencsw and running
$ pkgutil -i kde_gcc
or something like that and then you just add kde.desktop to the xsession and ta'da, early 2000s vibes

Mon dossier "Système de fichiers" n'a plus que 2 Go d'espace libre. Après un scan, je vois qu'il y a un fichier ".xsession-errors" qui prend masse de place.
1) C'est quoi ?
2) ça se supprime ou bof ?

Mon dossier "Système de fichiers" n'a plus que 2 Go d'espace libre. Après un scan, je vois qu'il y a un fichier ".xsession-errors" qui prend masse de place.

TIL on the RPi 5, at least, if your .profile errors out, your desktop session silently fails and you’re thrown back to the log in screen without notice. And even if you use Wayland, errors are logged in ~/.xsession-errors. 🤨

#linux annoyances: #lightdm hardcodes spammy .xsession-errors log file location into user's $HOME and there is no way to workaround it other than patching the program itself. Very annoying on a #lowend #pi.
