In fact, the one thing I haven’t done yet is wish all of you “龙年快乐”! Thank you for all your support and interest over the last twelve months, and I wish you all the very best in the upcoming year of the dragon! #xuetingsSpringFestival

Tidying done, I can finally start #XuetingsSpringFestival with this Family Reunion set from Lego
It’s by far the biggest Lego set I’ve made for a while, and I’m so pleased to see so much detail has gone into this!

Time to take a look at this year's hesuipian (new year movies). I'll do one a day and this should take us to the end of #springfestival. Thread 1/ #2024 #xuetingsspringfestival

Happy #LanternFestival. Our lanterns went off smoothly and flew high. This is a good sign. I hope you've enjoyed #xuetingsspringfestival. I shall be bringing you ever more writings, posts and talks with my insights on China's amazing cultures with 🐉 energy, in the year ahead.

A lighter meal today with the remaining three of eight festive dishes, one of which is 瓤豆腐 doufu stuffed with beef, followed by 南瓜豆沙饼 red bean paste pumpkin cake, and pomelo. An addition to my repertoire of rice-based dumpling /cake dishes. #food #cuisine #xuetingsspringfestival

People in China are sending me that Sam Hui song, digital paper calligraphy, and celebrities are doing quick change videos on Douyin. Because it's the fifth day of #ChineseNewYear, which means time to welcome in Caishen, the god of wealth. #xuetingsspringfestival

The Chinese love their light displays, especially during winter festivals, and in the 21st century, a lot more tech is at hand. Friends in China have been sending me pictures of drone dragons. #xuetingsspringfestival

#XuetingsSpringFestival continues preparation with a trip to the flower market! Cherry blossom (should be peach blossom really), curling bamboo, and catkins are all very traditional #ChineseNewYear flowers, and I always love adding some chrysanthemums and an oddity 1/

It’s part of a 2 two part idiom. The other part being “君以民为本” to the ruler, people are the foundation. Perhaps to the builder, #lego is the foundation!
The stickers are really detailed.

And that lovely tiled roof? So iconically Chinese… such a pain in the…thumbs to make out of #lego! And this isn’t even the main roof! But so satisfying putting it in place! That’s the whole ground floor finished! 1/

芋头椰子鸡煲For the Cantonese, chicken is a lucky dish. This year, I made braised chicken pot with taro in coconut cream. #xuetingsspringfestival #food 3/3

Though on the expensive side, Cambridge Satchel's lunar new year range of bag, purse, notebook and keyring, look great with the classic look of gold line design on a red background. And the lion means you can still use it next year! 2/ #xuetingsspringfestival

The weekend is over, but #XuetingsSpringFestival continues. Let me show you some of our decorations.
These mini kumquat trees are the safest options with two curious cats in the house. The fruit and hongbao are actually 3D printed, and the hongbao do actually contain money (1 jiao). 1/ #culture

Penultimate #Lego session! Bag 9 finishes off the second storey, but also gives us the grandfather! Whilst everyone else may be using camera phones, and uploading their food pics straight to Xiaohongshu, this Chinese yeye is still using his classic camera! #XuetingsSpringFestival

The most famous connection between peaches and long-livedness are Xiwangmu's Pantao (peaches of immortality), which the Monkey King once gorged himself on. Actually, there's a #Lego version of that too! #XuetingsSpringFestival 4/4

Swatch have clearly put the bells and whistles for #YearoftheDragon. A short animation and full dragon artwork accompany each type of dragon watch: Cloud, Waves, Wind; and laying on the Bling. Thank you for checking out #xuetingsspringfestival! 7/7 swatch.com/en-gb/year-o...

Next in this #Lego build, it’s this cute little food cart. I always love finding night snacks and street food when I’m back in China, and this set definitely sets itself in 2024. It looks like it’s selling wheel cakes! 1/

before I really started #XuetingsSpringFestival, there’s no reason you couldn’t buy it as a #ChineseNewYear gift, or buy it for yourself with your laisee money, and build it over the full 15 days of New Year! 4/

Bag 10 gives us the last member of restaurant staff. A young fellow with a fresh bowl of noodles. And this is where the fun really begins! Because now we actually get to put the meal together! #lego #springfestival #xuetingsspringfestival

More stickers! This #Lego restaurant obviously needs a full set of DuiLian, those big red banners which adorn the doorways. #XuetingsSpringFestival

Back home after a very good event at the BFI, and I think it’s time for a little more #lego! Between this, the wonderful audience today, and my lovely new window flowers, it’s beginning to feel a lot like #XuetingsSpringFestival .1/

...they're now sugared. 利是糖 lai see sweets in red and gold wrappers are a must for the new year. I'm partial to a preserved plum with chanpei (mandarin orange peel). Always get the ones wrapped in the traditional way, (blue & white design)4/4

With people increasingly traveling for work and study, and not wanting to brave the Chunyun (the big migration home for the holidays) video calls and telepresence let families reconnect for the #springfestival even when they can’t be there in person. #XuetingsSpringFestival.
