I also gave up every Saturday from mid-2010 through May 2011 to the Yes2AV campaign. We lost (lions led, not by donkeys, but by think-tankers, which is worse) but I happily note that Manchester, where I campaigned, significantly outperformed the national vote.

Yes2AV was my formative political experience. I ran the Islington campaign for yes, and I attribute our local success to (a) lots of doorknocking and (b) handing out leaflets saying that the BNP was in favour of No.

In the same way as you could joke in 1980 that "the votes are in from 1964 and Goldwater won", the 2024 election shows that Yes2AV won in 2011.

I hadn’t really absorbed until I tried to work out the theory of change myself that his best case scenario is that TWENTY-TWO YEARS after the AV referendum we might be voting in a PR general election. This is the better future Yes2AV unlocked by losing, supposedly!

Yeah, I think Yes to AV was in part about donors meddling IIRC? It was before Katie Ghose had successfully fought the 'we can't have Nigel Farage in our electoral reform campaign' people off. I think Yes2AV was more avoidably awful than Stronger In.

Vote #Yes2AV as it's a simple, sensible tweak to First Past The Post (with more of a post to be first past!) which lets people vote honestly
