Important to note from this statement is that Hiroyuki Yamaga told Gainax employees to pretend he was in the hospital in one of several attempts to avoid repaying the money Anno loaned to them
Hideaki Anno just announced via the khara website that Gainax is officially dead and gone as a corporate entity as of December 10th: www.khara.co.jp/2025/12/11/2...

On the 20th of August 1983, Daicon IV was released. It was made by Daicon Film, a 12 man studio with the 3 founding members being Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga, and Takami Akai. The studio would later go on to become Gainax studios.

In case you are unfamiliar with this animation: it was created by Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga, and Takami Akai in 1981 for the Daicon III festival (they will also make the Daicon IV opening).
And a few years later, these three young men (at the time) co-founded the Gainax studio.

But, after these statements from Anno on Yamaga's behavior, would anyone trust Yamaga? I can't imagine anyone would give Yamaga money.

when osamu tezuka saw the daicon iii animation, he famously said "there certainly were a lot of characters in the film...there were also some that weren't in the film." akai and yamaga, realizing the implication of tezuka's remark, made sure that daicon iv did not omit muttley.
