As I said, Andropov is arguably the biggest villain the USSR ever produced, on the entire weight of his career. Dzerzhinsky, Yagoda, Yezhov, and Beria were monsters in a different way but mostly targeting people in the USSR, Andropov was a global issue.

And even the USSR's airbrushing was never airtight for obvious reasons. The very survival of that Yezhov photo and the proof of how much Stalin hoaxed other photos is actual proof of that!
Exactly, this isn't Soviet air-brushing to pretend the guy never existed: an intentional, gaping blank space is left to instead communicate "you should not positively commemorate this person."
