Council members and sheriff's staff described short-term targeted ebike enforcement at parks and urged parents to supervise youth riders; city staff recommended support for several state ebike-safety bills while noting enforcement and fiscal limits.

City Attorney and police presented an ordinance to add electric bikes, scooters and other motorized conveyances to prohibited areas and to authorize impoundment of juvenile bikes for egregious unsafe behavior; fines would be graduated and the ordinance returns for adoption at the next meeting.

At a June 10 public hearing, Mechanicville officials introduced a local-law amendment to strengthen helmet, definition and operating rules for electric-assist bicycles and scooters and outlined an education-first enforcement plan after residents raised safety and insurance concerns.
