Who knows, maybe once I have played more my opinion on this changes. Maybe Yumia is a good game and not as much "betrayal" of Atelier as I see it as now. IDK. But this is how I feel now and I wanted to share that.

Whereas with Atelier it often feels that those changes are made just to attract a larger (usually western or a more general JRPG fan) crowd. Again see Iris trilogy, Mana Khemia or even the Ryza games and Yumia to a lesser degree.

And again, I don't mind the changes to gameplay. Heck I don't mind having stakes every now and then. But Yumia (and the Ryza games to a lesser extent) feel like such a far cry of what Atelier is in order to cater to a larger JRPG crowd who may not give Atelier a chance otherwise.

But I think there's a difference in Mana Khemia being a more experimental title that still keeps Ateliers spirit intact, versus Yumia which again, feels like a standard JRPG just with a cute girl lead and an alchemy system which, yeah are part of Ateliers identity, but not the whole thing.

But idk that's how I feel. I may not have played Yumia past its demo, but what I played and know about it feels wrong. Is it good? Maybe, but it misses the mark on why I like Atelier, and

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a hypocrite for being very pro modern FE yet being somewhat against modern Atelier, especially since not only have I not played enough Atelier games yet including Yumia, but one of my favorites is Mana Khemia 2, which is far diversed from the standard atelier formula.

It is pretty funny how, for as much as I'm up at arms defending modern FE from people who say FE has lost it way and forgotten what makes the franchise special in order to caterize to a broader public, yet that's exactly how I feel about the modern Atelier games, especially Yumia.
