If you don't understand why we recommend oils with high levels of moly to help prevent bore scoring, you can see from this image how it forms "glassy plates" which reduce friction and wear. Moly can bond to aluminum, where ZDDP can't.

Zinc DialkylDithioPhosphate (AKA Zinc or ZDDP) provides anti-wear protection in motor oils, but the levels of Zinc has been reduced in motor oils over the last 20 years. However, the amount of ZDDP alone isn't the only thing you should be looking at.

Preventing bore scoring starts with using the right oil. Not only do you want ZDDP to protect your engine, but you also need Moly friction modifier additives to prevent bore scoring since they can adhere to the aluminum bores where ZDDP can't.
