Zach Cregger's horror movie Weapons has premiered, unleashing a heat-seeking missile armed with rich storytelling and mind-blowing terror.

Resident Evil is being heralded as the best video-game adaptation to ever hit screens – but a large part of that is Zach Cregger’s willingness to throw out much of the source material, and immerse what’s left in bits and pieces of a whole history of horror. In the end, however, that strength also becomes one of the film’s biggest weaknesses – as it struggles to make itself feel like more than the sum of its writhing, upsettingly squishy parts.

The Weapons director delivers a seat-edge thriller with a standout lead performance from Austin Abrams as an everyman navigating chaos
