but I have not seen instances of the opposite where melee kits are used to access a ranged payoff
but I personally really enjoy how ZOE2 emphasizes how melee movesets are great for crowd control while also tapping into the joy of tagging a crowd with a ranged AOE explosion

I enjoyed the game, but it’s surprisingly short and feels much more like a proof of concept than a full game. I’ve been told that’s pretty much the case and that ZoE2 is a much better experience - albeit still short. Maybe I’ll get around to that one in less than 20+ years. 😉

It'll tighten up when the air and ground-breaking mechanics are incorporated, and the booster sub-modes are more refined.
Close combat is still a bit sloppy, but I'm aiming for something half way between ZOE2 and AC6, with the whiff risk of ACFA.

Kojima continuing Zone of the Enders would have been really cool because I think the actual sci-fi space setting would have worked out great for the sort of future speculative weirdness that he likes. Damn ZOE2 is just an incredible game though.

Another similar thing happened with the Silent Hill HD Collection (that one infamously did not end well) and Zone of the Enders HD Collection. For the latter, High Voltage's port of Anubis ZoE/ZoE2 was so bad at first that Konami hired Hexadrive to make a new port

also why I think something like ZOE2 and MGS2 and other early PS2 games specifically had some of the best looks of all time

The section in ZOE2 where you have to follow Ken’s directions or else Jehuty explodey is kind of a low point in the game but it’s also a warmup for the Inhert boss fight which is cool as fuck. So it’s actually good.
