A lovely corner of the internet: Zooniverse lets volunteers help researchers work through galaxy images, wildlife footage and historical records.

No specialist background needed. An actual research task for that pattern-spotting brain.

Today we're launching our newest Citizen Science Project: "The Lessons of Stories". Our goal is to involve the public in interpreting stories rather than leaving it solely to experts or AI. Come participate and tell a friend! www.zooniverse.org/projects/akp...

It's a magic place I think you would love. Shakespeare's World project currently on hold, but plenty of other projects to get involved with:

Well I haven’t been on them before! Zooniverse has nice things to do, depending on your preference. For example if you like looking at graphs (charts) the planet hunters projects are fun. And the @chimpandsee.bsky.social project sometimes captures a beautiful hyrax in one of its pictures 😊

Hab mal ein neues Zooniverse Projekt ausprobiert heute und bisher bestimme ich größtenteils, dass da Menschen an den Kamera vorbeilaufen.

haven't heard of zooniverse, i dont think I've ever thought to just browse stack exchange lol

I was thinking of old sites like Newgrounds and Gaiaonline, which I know newgrounds still gets a lot of attention.

por fin una web con la que puedo jugar a identificar animales todas las horas que quiera (sic); yo me entretengo y encima ayudo a peña haciendo estudios sobre los bichos en cuestión...todos ganamos! www.zooniverse.org/projects/sas...

The PRINT project (People, Religion, Information Networks, and Travel) is featured in the September/October 2026 issue of Archival Outlook, the publication of the Society of American Archivists. The article describes the project's history and progress so far, including their use of Zooniverse. The article particularly highlights their practices as an international collaboration of researchers, students, and volunteers, reflected in the title of the piece: "Five Repositories, Four Countries, Three Languages: Making Hidden Archives Accessible through PRINT." Read the article here, and explore the correspondence of seventeenth and eighteenth century European religious minorities by transcribing letters on PRINT!

NASA Selects 19 New Citizen Science Proposals in 2026
So far, 2026 has seen a flood of successes for volunteers who do NASA science, exemplifying NASA’s commitment to gold-standard science—transparent, reproducible and intrinsically collaborative. The Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 project announced that their project volunteers have now discovered most of the known brown dwarfs, celestial objects that are similar to planets. The Zooniverse platform, with grant from NASA, reached a milestone of 1 billion classifications. Several projects have come online that leverage new super intelligence (SI) techniques to amplify or extend the work of volunteers. More NASA volunteers are using SI to…

I mean, yes and no. Isn't this why we've invested in Zooniverse infrastructure? Wouldn't these tools help accelerate the discovery of cool things like Tabby's star, which was first caught by a citizen scientist in Planet Hunters?
