Signs of new regional realities in Caucasus: Turkish, the airline flying to the most countries internationally, is introducing Yerevan as its next new destination. (There was service on this route by low-cost, but no flagship carrier to Zvartnots due to political issues.)

EP-ICD is a combi-freighter (designed to carry both passengers and cargo on the main deck simultaneously) and appeared to park at the cargo loading/unloading area at Zvartnots.

On 09 May Iran Air B747 EP-ICD flew likely from Tehran IRN to Zvartnots International Airport ARM. It took off on 10 May and returned to IRN. As ARM is a Russian ally we should look for more such flights.

On 09 Feb 224th SFS Il-76MD CANDID RA-78838 flew from Moscow to an unknown location in southern RUS. On 11 Feb it took off and flew to Zvartnots International Airport, Yerevan ARM. This aircraft flew an almost identical route to Yerevan from 20-24 Mar 2025.

On 13 Feb 224th SFS Il-76MD CANDID RA-78838 departed Zvartnots International Airport, Yerevan ARM and is en route back to RUS.

A senior Armenian official wants Russian border guards to leave the Zvartnots Airport near Yerevan as it has been “proven several times they do not protect” the national border.
