But I just read someone's interpretation of this & a few other Sumerian texts, in which the dead are physically transforming into gidim (ghosts, essentially) and losing their human features and gaining bird ones--so they are actually covered in feathers & are birdmen, ala:

"There's only enough room for one aarakocra in this ring!" Is what Percival thought, though this isn't exactly how the start of the fight played out in his mind...

Actually, to continue the thread, the bird vibes really are just so baked into Soren's existence. "Soren" originally from Guardians of Ga'hoole (the owl books, yes), and Vah'kazu was an Aarakocra I played in a DND campaign, who in turn was named for LoZ divine beasts / Rito vibes.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I finally got my desktop back and set up, so I can post art again~!
Finale of the D&D character design comm 🍨

#characterdesign #OC #originalcharacter
Character design of an Aarakocra Wizard by Gelato Solstice. His bird features are based on an Australian Magpie, but with star-shaped markings along the wings and neck. Over his long tunic is a hooded, purple cloak with a blue galaxy pattern on the ends. His family crest adorns a clasp for the cloak and floats behind his head as a magic sigil. His pose mimics Tarot's Magician card, but with three Tarot cards in his upward hand instead.

OC illustration used as completed example for my YCH

Character: Simone
Finished: August 22nd 2026
Software: Procreate
Halfbody illustration of my DND character Simone, an aarakocra bard with a sparrow-inspired plumage and yellow eagle-like beak, wearing a long dark red wig, a v-neck white button shirt and a black laced vest. She's seen from a 3/4 angle, and she's pointing upwards with her right hand at a floating magical disk, while smiling with her beak open. The disk is orange with subtle orange and yellowish patterns, and the white text reads: Desert of Songs - best of- The background is a simple landscape of green hills and a light blue partially cloudy sky. Hmmmmm, well I would start with an Aarakocra for the species. Then lean into FIRE for the class and subclass.

First two that come to mind are either Circle of Wildfire Druid, or Fiend Patron Warlock.

Matchy OC illustrations used for a DTIYS

Characters:
- Slide 1: Simone, Vivian (tiny), (Hector Sterling (tiny), Toma Rubin (tiny)
- Slide 2: Toma Rubin, Simone (poster)
Finished:
- Slide 1: June 7th 2026
- Slide 2: June 12th 2026
Software: Procreate
Halfbody illustration of Simone, an aarakocra bard wearing a brown hat and a red dress with a golden collar. Her plumage is similar to sparrows, while her beak is large, eagle-like, yellow. She's watching melancholically at a jade colored disk floating over her palm and spinning, which is playing out a song that makes her reminisce of her youth. It invokes strong memories of her beloved band from the past, now only fleeting ghosts. Behind her there's a brown surface on which lays a box of ambiguous trinkets. Some of the visible objects are a black dress, a blue dog collar, and a red wig flowing from the edge. Around the box there's some fallen parchments. And, on the wall behind her, there's a red curtain hiding her old, starling-coated lute resting on a wall stand, only the bottom slightly peaking out. Simone is seen from a (left) side view. The simple gray wall background is covered by lights and shadows: a feint light from the left, almost emanating from the disk Simone is listening to, and dark red shadows from the right side. The ghosts of the past manifest as tiny visions of her beloved companions: - Hector Sterling, a joyous half elf with long brown hair and a mustache, wearing a top hat with jay feathers attached and a green shirt. He's emerging from behind her hat, holding on to it right above Simone's forehead, with his usual smile. - Vivian, a beautiful brown/gray owlin with yellow eyes, wearing a blue shirt, resting her ghostly body against Simone's forehead as if she was trying to comfort her. - Tommy (or Toma Rubin), a human guy with short black hair and stubble on his face, wearing a red shirt. He's peeking from the back of Simone's hat, almost stalking the other ghosts with a suspicious frown There are 2 watermarks: - A small one, reading: @DragonIntelligence June 2026 - A large one which reads: Personal art by @DragonIntelligence Wall of text to confuse generative AI and ward off predators ‼️Trans Rights‼️ Halfbody illustration of Toma Rubin, an angry human man with shoulder-length black hair, and black beard, wearing a red robe and leather gloves. He's seen from a (right) side view, angrily slamming his right fist on a plain wooden table, appearing to be shouting. His fist lands in front of a scroll which reads: "Beware! (Large, underlined) Inquisition activities in the North hindered by shady rebel group out on a murderous rampage ! Armed, magical and dangerous ! Be on the look out for: - Drow Baron - Green haired elf - Aarakocra (circled in red, and there's "-> ???" added in red) - 2 Halflings - Half elf cleric - Blonde human" The background is a plain gray wall, but there are numerous posters and scrolls nailed to it, as well as a dark red disk. The leftmost poster, partially covered by his head, shows a map of the empire he's living in and working for. It's just a plain brown mass, with a couple tiny islands on the bottom left side, and 3 markers: a red X sign on each of the top corners, and a crown symbol on the bottom left side, on the continent near the islands. The top middle poster is the first page of a newspaper called Newzaam Weekly, issue 666. The only legible writings are the 3 main headers: - Mass arrest following the great Azaam protest - The end of the Heralds? - The inquisition wants you! The bottom middle poster is a calendar. Some days are checked, some are crossed out, the day 12 is circled. The rightmost items are the aforementioned disk on top, and a wanted person poster below it, featuring the face of an angry Aarakocra with a hat. The text above the image reads: "WANTED (large, underlined) dead or alive (underlined) The Blazing Star" The text under the image reads: "Reward: $$$$ Report to Duke Madoni in Eldin" There are 2 watermarks: - A small one, reading: @DragonIntelligence June 2026 - A large one which reads: Personal art by @DragonIntelligence Wall of text to confuse generative AI and ward off predators ‼️Fuck Trump ‼️

Happy saturday, LoS! And thank you so much for the artshare 🖤💫
Painting of an anthropomorphic robin bird character with glasses. They are reading a book in a room and arebacklit by a ray of sunshine. Painting of a classroom of anthropomorphic characters as well as one human. There is a fox who is the teacher, a brown mouse student, a blond human student, a bat student, a chameleon student, a hyena student who is asleep on their desk. The focal point of the illustration is on a blue bird passing a note to their blue kobold classmate. Sketchy painting of an Aarakocra character looking back over their shoulder with a fierce expression. They are surrounded by red hues and fire is reflecting in their eye. Painted illustration of Gilbert von Obsidian from Ikemen Prince with a half orange half white tiger next to them. Both character's busts can be seen with the tiger's tail curling around a glass dome covering a rose in the background.

Character design sketch of an Aarakocra wizard by Gelato Solstice. His bird-like face and wings are now black and white to resemble the Australian Magpie with gray talons as hands and feet. His cloak is dark purple and blues that look like a galaxy over his more grounded purple adventuring tunic and white pants. His eye is a combination of purples to match.
