TIL a cool new word: ABUGIDA, n., a writing system whose letters are all consonants, with vowels expressed with diacritics.
Tolkien's Tengwar are an abugida. Hebrew isn't, because while the vowels can be written with diacritics, it's strictly optional.

Today’s #FiatLingua is worth a look! Carl Buck (@tlacamazatl.bsky.social) took the original #Klingon script and worked it into a functional abugida. It’s, in my opinion, the single best instantiation of the Klingon script ever. You can read the whole article here:
