#academisation
Academisation of state schools was always going to end like this.
Pay at the top of some multi-academy trusts has spiralled out of control. £220k salaries and £50k pensions cannot be justified while classrooms are under-resourced.

#Streeting is stealth privatiding the NHS, just like Blair stealth privatised education with academisation.

Wait Sam, I thought that Ofsted, Gove and academisation had eliminated crap schools and a lack of reading.

Academisation hasn’t exactly been a disaster but neither has it led to the market in education and shrinking of the state envisaged has it?

A striking non-answer in education questions: Bridget Phillipson asked if she thinks academisation drove up school standards, did not reply.

There needs to be an urgent large scale study of how academisation has impacted on England’s state education system, and action taken based on the results. Small scale studies are turning in quite alarming findings. @yorksbylines.bsky.social yorkshirebylines.co.uk/news/educati...

I’ve spent a decent amount of the last two days researching primary academies and the general process of school academisation.

It’s been about a joyful as you can imagine.

I said this was the goal *years* ago, even before LLMs were a thing. They’ve been deskilling teachers for the last decade - we’ve been ‘facilitators to learning’ since academisation was rolled out and our classroom autonomy was taken away. This is fucking terrifying. Absolutely NOT.

If you're not aware of the levels of punishment now flooding our secondary schools (since academisation), read this. It is scaring a generation of children. 472 kids have had to leave this school in three years - but it's not just this school.

Definitely. Too many MATs are corporate child prisons run by CEOs and business managers who have never taught anyone in their lives. @yorkshirebylines.co.uk @bylinesnetwork.co.uk

@zackpolanski.bsky.social’s speech to @neunion.bsky.social conference today:

➡️ Government’s White Paper ‘will entrench failings’
➡️ Academy trusts ‘another failed model’
➡️ Ofsted is ‘toxic, failed institution’
Polanski: White Paper will ‘entrench failings’ in school system

Critics of privatisation have been pointing this out this would happen since the days of Thatcher. Oh the irony of being preached at on privatisation by one of the main architects of the accelerated academisation (privatisation) of our state schools during the Gove years

2/ His project was clear; a knowledge-rich curriculum, tougher examinations, and rapid academisation. These reforms were presented as “rigour”, but they centralised authority and intensified pressure on schools.

What happened is academisation and the dominance of the brand.

A thinly veiled diatribe about the dangers of academisation?
August 10, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Education has been privatised by the back door under the guise of 'academisation'.

Where once we had accountable governors & LEAs, now we have shadowy 'trustees' and Multi-Academy Trusts
In Rip off Britain, education has been treated as yet another commodity.

And those who work in education are treated badly over and over again.

Awful for educators and awful for students.

I'll be speaking tonight at the University and College Union 👇🏼
Exclusive🚨

In the latest example of @zackpolanski.bsky.social bid to develop ties with unions, he is expected to tell UCU govt should stop treating uni students like customers

+ expected to warn that academics nationwide are facing "shattered morale, crushing workloads, and stifled innovation"
May 28, 2026 at 5:23 PM
Schools following academisation have been made abruptly less accessible to students with much more focus on getting rid of kids who don't fit the mould than before. This increases the cost of providing specialist support to those children outside of mainstream or even inside it.
December 23, 2024 at 7:14 AM
As the @neunion.bsky.social says, ending forced academisation is welcome — but it’s only a half U-turn. Too many schools remain trapped in multi-academy trusts. I propose a new “academy reversal order” to give communities a way forward.
