All these Trump voters here in very red Mohave County, AZ are gonna be so thrilled when they find out Dear Leader signed an order on July 9th to build a pipeline, sending our water to California in amounts 25 times more than what the acquifer can naturally replace/sustain.

The trouble of course is that if you go around saying "zero tolerance for naysayers", it doesn't save much because you still need a budget to distinguish them from "if-you-keep-taking-water-out-of-that-acquifer-you'll-get-sinkholes-sayers"

my favourite moment in that sad saga was when they hit an acquifer in the foundations, meaning that Deutsche's asset was literally as well as figuratively underwater.

Evidence of acquifer dewatering? It's standard construction for any data center, you can't lay the foundations for a building that large without draining the waterbtable first. Every data center is a citation

It's happened in 2 states where there were already droughts, in the local communities who drew their water from the same acquifer they lost water and had to ship drinking water in

I believe this is a fossil acquifer meaning once it’s depleted it’s done. Fossil acquifers don’t recharge like others do. That would be devastating for agriculture, farmers, business, households. Rural plains America cannot exist without this acquifer.

21st century dev bio at its best! I can't help but point out that not one but two Bruker microscopes (Acquifer IM, MuVi) were used for gentle&long term time lapse imaging of developing Nematostella here. No need to mount your invertebrate (cnidaria, planaria, crustaceans), we can do the time lapse!
We thought we were just studying mesoglea biogenesis…Turns out Nematostella has been hiding a sophisticated backup pressure valve! Work driven by the talented PhD student Soham Basu! @embl.org www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We have just installed the high throughput microscope Acquifer IM from Bruker in the lab of Prof. Buchtova in Brno, Inst. of Animal Physiology and Genetics. This microscope is a versatile widefield fluorescence microscope, which is suited for imaging larger samples like organoids or fish embryos.

We have just installed the high throughput microscope Acquifer IM from Bruker in the lab of Prof. Buchtova in Brno, Inst. of Animal Physiology and Genetics. This microscope is a versatile widefield fluorescence microscope, which is suited for imaging larger samples like organoids or fish embryos.
And, their claims of "restoring to better than before" is a misnomer. It isn't a requirement and they don't do that. Great tailings dams are there forever, ready to spew toxic waste into waterways and the sea. Land with no acquifer structure isn't suitable for much in the medium and long term.

This has been going on for decades. London water was drawn from acquifer boreholes (may not be now, I don't know) and the consequent reduction in the height of the water table was causing buildings to sink.
This was happening in the 70's and was a long standing issue then.

Did those in power in the Middle Ages use disaster and plague as a means to consolidate power the way authoritarians today do? (i.e. VC firms buying up land cheap in Bahamas after Cat 5 hurricane, or buying up water rights and acquifer lands now in advance of anticipated drought)

…depleting the public drinking water acquifer sources. Those don’t recharge overnight folks.
