Introduce yourself as what almost killed you

Hi! I‘m actinomycosis!
Introduce yourself as what almost killed you.

Hi, I'm Drowning. But my friends call me Tomatoes.

This same source also mentions how wolves might be able to smell moose with necrotic mandibles or decaying teeth from actinomycosis, allowing them to sniff out more vulnerable prey.

This is chilling, to lose ability to speak so quickly and at 58. I wonder if people with similar symptoms are misdiagnosed with early onset dementia.

"It was a relief to learn that the mass was an abscess caused by actinomycosis bacteria and a staph infection, not cancer."

Bacteria.
Fave broadcaster Alison Stewart needed some brain work. She's much better now. Julie Besonen, who does lovely profiles for the NYT, tells us all about it. Gift link!

Without knowing the details, it's hard to say. But a few thoughts:
First, I'd want to be sure this is true invasive actinomycosis and not Actinomyces colonization of the tonsils, which is actually quite common.

Second, I probably would not have switched from amoxicillin to doxycycline if the diagnosis was confirmed invasive actinomycosis. Penicillin (or amoxicillin) remains first-line therapy, and invasive disease often requires prolonged treatment because of dense fibrosis and poor antibiotic penetration.

Actinomyces is usually a harmless bacteria in your body. But when it gets in the wrong place, it can cause a serious infection.

Yes, I thought about that too.

So many policies from past 5 years are allowing preventable conditions to target weakened immune systems.

This story about brain mass caused by actinomycosis bacteria and a staph infection was frighening.

I’m so glad your chi pulled through. Actinomycosis can be incredibly serious. It’s amazing to hear HBOT made such a visible difference so quickly.

It really does wonders. Our chi developed a severe Actinomycosis infection and almost died. HBOT helped make him better, and even after one session, he was visibly feeling better than before.
