Former NFL running back Le'Veon Bell made serious allegations against his former head coach, Adam Gase, claiming he witnessed Gase using cocaine in his office multiple times. Bell, who played under Gase with the New York Jets during the 2019 and part of the 2020 season, described Gase as both the 'dumbest' and 'worst coach ever' in an appearance on the podcast 'Respectfully The Justin Laboy Show.' Bell stated that Gase's alleged drug use affected his ability to properly call plays. Gase's tenure with the Jets resulted in a 9-23 record before he later joined the Los Angeles Chargers as an assistant coach. HuffPost reached out to both the NFL and the Chargers for comment. Bell, known for several productive seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, retired from the NFL in 2021 and briefly pursued a professional boxing career with a 2-1 record. The former running back was also involved in legal controversies, including a 2025 court ruling ordering him to pay $25 million in an incest case, which he contested, claiming innocence and a lack of due process.
