The story is typed on a sheet of paper, still in the typewriter. ‘Distance’ She shuddered, recalling the last time they’d seen one another—their last meeting had been emotionally draining and friendship-destroying. They’d both walked away, deciding to move on, giving one another as much space and time as necessary, navigating awkward moments and avoiding any mention of the other within their social circles. They’d let things lie, licking their wounds to the point of rawness. That distance and time allowed their wounds-from-words heal, although their emotional scars remained. Upon meeting again, she mourned the friend she’d lost, but marvelled at the individuals they’d both become, and at the new friendship slowly blooming.

Today's drabble is inspired by snow, that wonderous shit that falls from the sky and magically brightens up even the darkest of days and nights in Helsinki this time of year. I hope you enjoy this.

'A Game of Catch', which reads: ‘A game of catch’ On their evening stroll, she thought, ‘I loathe winter, but love snow.’ A heavy snowfall’s sound—not simply silence, but a filtered quiet, as if muffled by loosely packed feathers—always calmed her. She caught glimpses of sparkles dancing on the snow, a game of catch between sources of light. It was as if the freshly fallen snow randomly held a million tiny crystals, and then offered them back as glittering bits of joy and whimsy, the perfect contrast to winter’s funeral black. Those unexpected sparks of light, so bright against the darkness, that was what she loved about snow.
