If Elon Musk is going to be put in charge of advising the Pentagon on “the future of war” then he needs to sober up. Plain and simple. We already have Hegseth’s religious delusions to contend with. We don’t need drugged out tech bro fantasies on top of it.

A rehash of this was on BBC News today. I think it was supposed to expose the trials many face paying their energy bills. So why did it conclude by advising those people to spend £30k+ on solar panels & ground source heat pumps? It would have made a poor A-level essay.

ADVISING BARRIERS:
Protective gatekeeping around students' academic readiness & maturity for college classes, along w/ institutional incentives, shaped student advising. When students take off-campus DE, schools can lose funding - one admin noted: "I lose a ton of FTE over it."

im considering attempting to alternate between states where I set a timer and switch from acting to self advising modes periodically
October 1, 2026 at 12:31 PM
I'm switching from 1:1 advising appointments this semester (due to my advising load) to group advising (5 students at a time). Much will be lost, but I only have so much time in the weeks leading up to registration.
Sure, it’s cheaper to have big classes and to give each adviser 1000 students while rushing students themselves to graduate as fast as possible, but less learning will happen as a result.
