There's so much adware in the sites it crashes my browser
The least-talked-about factor in the decline of local news and reading is how horrible and unusable so many of their websites are. It's just the truth, and it's been awful for a decade, so people moved on.
I did the right thing the other day and bought a one-month sub to a regional paper b/c it had an article I wanted to read. The paper's site never worked on three different browsers, I went back and forth with support many times, they finally said they couldn't help anymore, great job everyone.

fun thing about websites - they work perfectly in the EU. instant load times. it's not graphics slowing them down, it's adware tracking that's illegal in europe now.
My internet connection is technically a lot faster, but it craps out or slows down pretty often, and websites are so graphics and glut heavy that the extra speed just gets eaten up. My phone reception is pretty bad and I get broken up calls all the time. My printer sucks.
