Honestly I think the adaptation is perfect, making Aerion more of a shithead, Maekar more grouchy, it's funnier, but its also fleshing out the humanity of their family so you get more context to their motivations. It's pretty obvious Aerion is trying to look tougher for Maekar, and Daeron dies

Also, giving his line to Aerion, if no one backs your cause, it's cause you're guilty, is imo much better too. Really hammers in exactly how arrogant and he is, and aside from that, it lets Maekar seem less like hes bought into Aerions story and more that this desperate move wont work.
