In memory of the best greeter the bookshop has ever had.

Aeschylus passed away in the early hours of November 7. He leaves his adopted sister Sophocles and newest coworker Menander, and thousands of friends, because he never met a human he didn't want to boop with his goofy orange nose.

Please send your hugs to @thehauntedbookshop.com for the loss of the great Aeschylus, the greatest shop cat this non-cat-lover ever met.

RIP, Esk.

Intertextuality helps to create great art, but there's always the question of "who gets to be civilized". Have any of *you* read Jung? Wadsworth? Aeschylus? Even those of you who do read?

Shakespeare was low culture that became part of the modern canon because it survived through popularity.

It is in the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered.

This was an awesome project! Loved referring back to these vids a few years ago when I was taking an Aeschylus class. Went back to rewatch a bit of Eumenides last year and it remains incredible.

It is an easy thing for one whose foot is on the outside of calamity to give lecture and rebuke the sufferer.

This is the kind of lament I can understand. I once misplaced my copy of an old interlinear edition of Agamemnon by Aeschylus I found at a library sale. I never found it, alas. (Perhaps a classics thief roamed the halls when I was in grad school. Never leave your interlinear Aeschylus unattended).

The impartial application and enforcement of the rule of law can often feel like revenge & retribution by the criminal. I'd suggest that lawbreakers read their Aeschylus' Oresteia. The rule of law is what civilized people chose in lieu of retribution & revenge. Don't make us regret that choice.

I just can't read the tragedies of Aeschylus for that very reason.

Cancelled so hard I never became famous in the first place. A tragedy worthy of Aeschylus

If only there had been ostriches in Ancient Sicily when Aeschylus visited for the last time, that eagle would not have mistaken his bald head for a rock and thought to drop a turtle on him. (Is it strange that this is my first thought seeing this?)
