I actually wonder if they might restore some pre-SMN-rework caster design.
It used to be that all 3 casters interacted with MP differently, with RDM being entirely reliant on Lucid and the MP-free melee combo as regen time, SMN recovering MP aggressively through Aetherflow/Energy Drain

i don't do extreme content so maybe my view here is skewed by at no point have i ever felt like i needed to use energy drain other than because aetherflow is off cooldown and i have 2 stacks left because i only needed to pop a single sacred soil and i don't think i've ever needed to eat the fairy

Scholar is a lot more about anticipation and prediction. When can you afford to energy drain, when can you eat your fairy for extra aetherflow, when to excog vs passive heal.
It's job is much more about anticipating than sage. Sage feels shield healer (light) with how many responses they have
